Kadokawa Gempak Starz has released two volumes of the manga adaptation based on Makota Shinkai’s novel and film Kimi no Na wa. The film was a huge success becoming the 4th highest grossing film of all time in Japan with a box office collection of over US$350 million.
Riding on the success of the film, a manga series based on the movie was released last year featuring the drawings of Ranmaru Kotone. The English and Malay translation of this Manga was recently released by Kadokawa Gempak Starz and has been a huge success among local comic fans.
The story revolves around Mitsuha and Taki who both have dreams of each other despite not knowing one another. What is the truth behind these apparent dreams? Well, get the book or watch the movie if you want to find out more! (Note: If I were to write anything more, it could be a potential spoiler!)
To date, two volumes have been released with the final installment coming soon. Though the book is aimed at a younger audience, as an adult, you are sure to enjoy the manga, especially if you have yet to watch the movie. Some good drawings coupled with Makota Shinkai’s story-line makes for a light and enjoyable read.
The price of the book could be another factor as to why this book is selling out fast at most bookstores. It is priced at a reasonable RM10 for the Malay translation and RM12 for the English version. Gempak Starz seems to be maintaining the pricing of their books around this range to ensure that they can reach a wider audience. Works for me!
You can get your copy at most major bookstores. There are two versions so be on the lookout. Your Name 01 & 02 is the English version and Namamu 01 & 02 is the Malay version. The books are also available through Gempak Starz’s online store.
Write-Lah! focuses on reviews of movies, music and books (not necessarily new releases) with an emphasis on local talent here in Malaysia.
